One of the top players on Thibodaux High School’s State Championship team has found his home for the future.
Combo guard Marvin Robertson Jr. announced today that he’s signed to continue his career at Moravian Prep, a national high school and post-grad basketball program designed to give kids exposure to be seen for Division I universities around the country.
Robertson was a key piece to Thibdaux’s Class 5A State Championship Team – one of the leading scorers and defenders on a group that took the community by storm this past spring.
Robertson said he’s blessed for the opportunity, adding that he can’t wait to compete at the next level.
He announced his decision on social media.
“First off, I would like to say all glory to God and I want to thank him for everything he’s done for me!” Robertson said in his announcement. “I would like to thank my mother and my pops for everything they do for me and for pushing me to be the player and person I am today. I want to thank my close friends and my haters for pushing me to be the player I am today, and I would also like to thank all of the coaches that coached me and molded me into the player I am today, from AAU coaches to high school coaches.”
Robertson is a quality player.
He started his prep career at Central Lafourche and shined because of his versatility and ability to play multiple positions.
His family moved and he re-located to Thibodaux High School as a senior and enjoyed his biggest moments in the back-end of the season and in the playoffs.
Robertson was a consistent scorer for the Tigers and a distributor who was capable of making plays for others on the floor.
On defense, he was also a quality on-ball defender who drew key assignments throughout the postseason.
“He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do,” Thibodaux boys’ basketball coach Tony Clark said of Robertson after the season. “He’s been a hard worker and he’s done so many things to help us win ballgames.”
Robertson had collegiate interest throughout his recruitment, but he said he chose Moravian so that he could make sure that his game is 100 percent ready for the highest levels of collegiate play.
He will report to North Carolina in the coming weeks and begin making preparations for the 2019-20 season.
“(This) gives me this chance to develop my body, game and recruitment,” Robertson said. “I will take advantage of this opportunity and work my tail off.”
