“Cats” (Baton Rouge)


July 6-29, at the Baton Rouge Little Theatre, 7155 Florida Blvd., at 7:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. weekend matinees. Tickets are $25. For more info: (225) 924-6496. Based on the universally popular poetry of T.S. Eliot, “Cats” tells the story, in son and dance, of the annual gathering of Jellicle Cats at which time one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heaviside Layer.


“Sugar Babies” (New Orleans)

“The Lieutenant of Inishmore” (New Orleans)


July 25-Aug. 19, at the Southern Repertory Theatre, Canal Place, third floor. Tickets are $24. Irish playwright Martin McDonagh’s hilarious dark comedy about Mad Padriac, a ruthless terrorist with one soft spot: his wee black kitty.

A zany, offbeat murder mystery farce about a salesman forced to take the corpse of his recently-murdered, Atlantic City croupier uncle on a week-long vacation to Monte Carlo. Should he succeed, Harry Witherspoon stands to inherit $6 million. If not, the money goes to the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn, N.Y.
