The Southwest Trade Adjustment Assistance Center is hosting a grant presentation at 9 a.m. tomorrow in the Terrebonne Parish Council meeting room in Houma.
“During this challenging economic period, companies must evaluate each aspect of their operations to realize efficiency and value,” said Patrick Gordon, Terrebonne Economic Development Authority’s chief executive officer. “This program offers cost savings for services in which some companies may already be planning to invest. TEDA is pleased to bring this presentation to Terrebonne Parish.”
To qualify, a company must have experienced a minimum of six-month decrease in sales and employment within the last 12-24 months.
The potential value of the grant is up to 50 percent of project costs being paid with money from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration.
The Southwest TAAC is one of 11 nationally operated centers that administer the Trade Adjustment Assistance for Firms program. Southwest TAAC provides services to firms in Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.
Some local companies have benefited from its use, according to Katherine Gilbert-Theriot, TEDA’s business retention and expansion director. All business information, including trade secrets and financial information provided for the grant application is exempt from the Freedom of Information Act and treated with strict confidentiality, she said.
