At his National Signing Day luncheon, Nicholls State University football coach Charlie Stubbs spoke directly to unsigned recruits when he repeatedly mentioned that the Colonels had more scholarships to offer if any transfers or late signees were interested in the program.

This week, a slew of talent took Stubbs up on his offer.

The fourth-year NSU head coach announced this week that the Colonels have added five players to its roster – four players from Louisiana and one from Pittsburgh.

The players will land in Thibodaux through a number of different avenues. Three of the players are transfers from Football Bowl Subdivision Programs, one is a junior college transfer and another will come to Nicholls out of high school.

The five players who are now on Nicholls’ roster are offensive linemen Nicholas Chartain, Ashton Duhe and Noland Sharpe, punter/kicker Conner Fryoux and cornerback Ronald Tyler.

With the three FBS transfers, the Colonels will be benefitting from a trio of players who were pretty well recruited out of high school.

Chartain lands in Thibodaux after playing two seasons for the University of Memphis. While with the Tigers, the 6-foot, 5-inch left guard received two letters.

The mammoth guard will be making a return trip to Louisiana with his transfer. He is from New Orleans and was a two-star prospect at Desire Street Academy. While there, he recorded more than 100 pancake blocks and was an All-State selection.

Duhe also will bring FBS experience to Nicholls’ struggling line. The 6-foot, 3-inch offensive lineman played two seasons at SMU – recording action in five games last season with one start.

Like Chartain, Duhe is also from Louisiana. The incoming offensive lineman hails from Norco and played his high school ball at Destrehan. While there, he was one of Louisiana’s most highly touted offensive lineman prospects, earning a three-star rating by Rivals.com.

In his senior season at the prep level, Duhe didn’t allow a sack and recorded 23 pancakes. He also was part of two state championship games within the program.

Sharpe will also join Nicholls’ offensive line through the Destrehan pipeline. The incoming high school recruit was a three-year starter for the Wildcats, earning First-Team All-District for three-straight seasons.

For his efforts, Sharpe was listed as a two-star prospect by recruiting service Rivals.com.

While Chartain, Duhe and Sharpe provide much-needed beef to the Colonels’ front, Fryoux will provide finesse with his powerful right foot.

The 5-foot, 10-inch punter/kicker arrives in Thibodaux after two seasons with UL-Monroe. During his time with the Warhawks, he found success. He was a member of the Sun Belt Conference’s All-Freshman Team in 2011. He recorded 17 punts for 618 yards in his first two seasons of his collegiate career.

Prior to signing with ULM, Fryoux was a two-year letterman at Dutchtown High School, where he earned First-Team All-District honors.

Rounding out the new players is Tyler, who arrives with two years playing experience at Snow College. While with the junior college, Tyler started 22 games, recorded six interceptions, forced three fumbles and blocked two punts.

Nicholls State football coach Charlie Stubbs talks to his team following a game last season. The Colonels added five players to their roster this week. Among the new signees are several linemen who were highly recruited out of high school.
