Two suspects are in the custody of the Houma Police Department for a drive-by shooting earlier this week.

The Times previously reported that HPD was looking for suspects who fired numerous shots at victims on Oct. 13, injuring 2.

As investigation continued, it was learned that the victims were in a Kia Soul at the time of the incident, and they even fired shots at the victims as they were entering a local hospital for treatment.

A Crime Stoppers tip identified the suspects as father and son, Kayla Franklin Sr., 50, and Kayla Franklin Jr., 19.

HPD first located Kayla Franklin Sr. on Barataria and immediately took him into custody. HPD also located the Toyota Highlander, which was parked at his residence. The vehicle was retrieved for processing.

Shortly after arresting Franklin Sr., HPD also located Franklin Jr., near Lafayette Street and La. Highway 311 and he was taken into custody.

Both men are charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property. Both were taken to jail to be booked on the aforementioned charges.

This investigation is ongoing, as detectives are attempting to ascertain what the shooting is stemming from.
