Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue announced the arrest of a wanted felon after leading police in a vehicle pursuit.

Jarrel Coleman (B/M – 35 YOA) of Thibodaux, La. is charged with 1-Count of Child Passenger Restraint System (Misdemeanor), 1-Count of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile (Misdemeanor), 1-Count of Flight from Officer (Misdemeanor), 1-Count of Fugitive (Misdemeanor), 1-Count of Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of a C.D.S. (Felony), 1-Count of Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm (Felony), 1-Count of Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Felony), 1-Count of Prohibited Acts – Scheduled IV (Felony) & 4-Counts of Resisting an Officer (Misdemeanor).
On Dec. 11, 2023, Thibodaux Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Canal Boulevard / Talbot Avenue, in reference to a driver being unresponsive at the wheel in traffic. As officer’s arrived and attempted to make contact with the driver, it was learned that the door to the vehicle was locked. Immediately following the officer’s knocking on the window, the driver, who also had an unrestrained toddler (2 YOA) in the backseat, woke and fled from police, leading them on a short pursuit. The driver eventually stopped in the 100 block of Iris Street, at which time he began physically resisting officers as they attempted to remove and detain him from the vehicle.
The toddler was unharmed in the incident and released to a family member on scene. Although the driver identified as Jarrel Coleman had no visible injuries, he was transported to a local hospital per his request to be medically evaluated. While being treated, a warrant was obtained, approved and executed, due to the suspicion of Mr. Coleman being under the influence. These results are pending.
Upon further investigation, Mr. Coleman was found to have an active warrant for his arrest. A search of his vehicle following a K-9 alert, also rendered the findings of drugs and a stolen firearm in the vehicle.
After being treated, Mr. Coleman was cleared and released by medical staff. Mr. Coleman was subsequently arrested and charged accordingly. Mr. Coleman was transported to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex, where he remains on a $72.250.00 bond.
