The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a 75-year-old last week, charging him with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and two counts of aggravated battery after he allegedly pulled a gun on his granddaughter and one of her friends.

On Oct. 3, TPSO deputies responded to the 4100 block of Grand Caillou Road in reference to a call of a disturbance at the location.

Upon arrival, a deputy made contact with a 21-year-old male victim who was bleeding heavily from his face.

Authorities said the victim had a swollen right eye and scratch marks at the bridge of his nose

The victim said that he was at the residence visiting with a 22-year-old female acquaintance when someone started banging on the door, sounding irate.

The victim told TPSO that when the female opened the door, she saw that the angry person was actually her grandfather, Jerry Joseph Duplantis, 75, of 5286 Grand Caillou Road, Houma.

The victim said that once the door was open, Duplantis pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the male victim, threatening to shoot him, so the victim put both of his hands in the air.

The victim said Duplantis then struck him in the face with the gun, which started an altercation.

During the altercation, authorities said Duplantis also attacked his grand daughter and tried to hit her in the face with the gun.

The female suffered an injury to her forearm in the attack, because she was using it to try and cover up her face from the gun.

Both victims were treated on the scene by Acadian Ambulance Services.

Deputies made contact with the suspect at his home and he was immediately taken into custody without incident

Deputies interviewed the man, and he admitted to being in an altercation, but said he was just defending himself.

He said he was letting his granddaughter live in the apartment as long as she didn’t have male visitors after 10 p.m.

Duplantis is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm (two counts) and aggravated battery (two counts). He posted a $5,000 bond. •
