A 24-year-old homeless man is in custody of the Houma Police Department after he allegedly broke into a shed.

On April 3 just before 3 a.m., HPD officers were called to the 1500 block of Lee Avenue in reference to a complaint of a burglary.

During investigation, a victim told police that he witnessed a suspect enter his shed through a window, which prompted the call to police.

HPD checked the exterior of the victim’s property, then officers worked their way to the shed.

When officers opened the door, they noticed Dean Battise, 24, listed as homeless, sitting on the floor.

Battise was then taken into custody and charged with simple burglary.

HPD said it wants to thank the victim for reporting the crime.

It asks anyone with information on illegal activity to call Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433.
