A 13-year-old Houma Junior High School student was arrested yesterday for bringing an illegal weapon on school grounds.

At 2:25 p.m., the School Resource Officer at the school was monitoring the buses as they were leaving the campus. During that time, he was alerted by students who were running off of one of the buses.

The SRO got on the bus along with two duty teachers to investigate.

The SRO learned that a 13-year-old student was involved in an altercation on the bus when she struck and used a taser against the other student. The student was also in possession of pepper spray at the time of the incident. TPSO took both weapons from the suspect and arrested the student without incident.

The student, a 7th grader, is arrested for illegal carrying of a weapon on school grounds and simple battery. She was taken to the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Justice Center where she was booked and jailed.
