The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a 28-year-old Thibodaux man after a pursuit.

He was wanted for attacking a man with a pitchfork.

Just before 6:30 p.m. on March 17, deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence on St. Joseph Street in Mathews.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man who had head trauma. They learned that the man was hurt when Colby Perez, 28, of Thibodaux, entered his residence and announced he would kill him.

Authorities said Perez had a protective order that forbid him from seeing the man.

Perez allegedly struck the man multiple times in the head with a pitchfork before fleeing the scene in a black car.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to University Medical Center in New Orleans.

Authorities got a description of Perez’s vehicle and they located the car in the parking lot of a truck stop in Mathews.

The driver, later identified positively as Perez, noticed the deputy and left the area, crossing over Bayou Lafourche to La. Highway 1 and proceeding northward.

Authorities pursued, trying to conduct a stop.

Perez refused to stop, turning down St. Joseph Street and heading back to the original scene, but then proceeding back to La. Highway 1 where he continued northbound.

Deputies successfully deployed a spike strip on La. Highway 1 near the intersection of St. Charles Bypass Road and Perez eventually stopped in a store parking lot at the intersection.

He then exited and appeared to surrender, but then violently resisted before being taken into custody.

Upon arrest, authorities learned that Thibodaux Police had handled a complaint on March 16 regarding Perez borrowing the black car and not returning it.

Following investigation, a warrant was issued for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Authorities also learned of another incident, on Dec. 5, 2017, in which Perez was charged with simple battery on the same victim and he was ordered to stay away from him at that time.

Perez is charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated flight from an officer, illegal possession of stolen things and violation of a protective order.

He was also booked on the warrant for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle as well as the contempt of court charge.

He is held on a $146,400 bond.
