A Morgan City man who shot at an occupied house in Gray was quickly apprehended Sunday morning through a cooperative effort between Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies, detectives and other local agencies.

Sheriff Tim Soignet said deputies were dispatched to the 2700 block of West Park Avenue at about 8:46 a.m. Jan. 17, 2021, for a report of shots fired. Authorities said that an estranged husband thought his wife was in the house, fired shots and then fled in a flatbed truck. Dispatchers broadcast a description of the vehicle which was stopped by a Louisiana State Police trooper on US 90.

“Coordination by our Patrol, Detective and Crime Scene divisions resulted in information and evidence to be gathered which resulted in the suspect being charged,” Sheriff Soignet said.

Joseph Acosta, 28, was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex and booked for aggravated assault with a firearm.

“Our different divisions functioned together like clockwork, and I am grateful for their successful efforts,” Sheriff Soignet said. “I want to thank the Louisiana State Police and Thibodaux City Police for the role they played in this case. Together we are stronger.”
