A local mother is charged with child desertion after allegedly leaving her small child at a hotel pool unattended.

Terrebonne Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said that on March 24 at approximately 9:30 p.m., deputies were called to the Quality Inn Hotel in Houma regarding a 3-year-old girl who had been left alone at the hotel’s pool.

Deputies arrived at the business and spoke with the complainant who said that the little girl was poolside asking for her mother, who was nowhere to be found.

During investigation, authorities located the mother inside of the hotel’s bar. They identified her at Lacey Michelle Moore, 27, of 502 Bobbie Lou Avenue, Houma.

Authorities said the suspect appeared to be intoxicated and was uncooperative with deputies.

When gathering information, Moore allegedly became belligerent and yelled profanities at the officers.

Authorities said they tried to restrain Moore, but she violently resisted and kicked deputies and the back door of the patrol car.

While investigating, authorities learned that the woman also left her 5-year-old son in a hotel room alone.

Moore is charged with child desertion, disturbing the peace, battery on a police officer and resisting a police officer with force or violence.

She remains in the Terrebonne Jail on a $5,000 bond.

The children have been released into the custody of a responsible family member.
