A Houma teenager is in custody of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly stole valuables from unlocked cars.

On Friday morning, TPSO deputies responded to the 100 block of Sterling Drive in reference to an apparent burglary.

When on the scene, authorities learned that the doors of the victim’s vehicle were unlocked, and there was a Michael Kors purse, a school bag and other items that were taken from the car.

Later during evening hours, authorities were called again – this time to Ashland Drive – in reference to someone pulling on car handles.

Residents in that neighborhood said they saw someone pulling on car handles, then allegedly chased him through the neighborhood before he escaped.

The victims identified him as Kody Duplantis, 18, of 3371 Grand Caillou Road, Houma.

Deputies then went to the suspect’s residence and made contact with him.

He was questioned regarding the vehicle break-ins, and then allegedly admitted to burglarizing two vehicles on Sterling Drive and then pulling on the doors on others that were locked.

Authorities also recovered the stolen Michael Kors purse and some credit cards from inside of the suspect’s residence.

Duplantis is charged with two counts of simple burglary and attempted simple burglary of a vehicle.

He remains in the Terrebonne Parish Jail on a $13,500 bond.
