Two Raceland fugitives are in the custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office – both charged with drug-related offenses.

Last Thursday at around 12:40 p.m., Lafourche deputies with the Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Squad were at the intersection of La. Highway 308 and La. Highway 182 in Raceland when they observed Scotty Poindexter, 27, of Raceland, in the parking lot of a convenience store.

Authorities said they knew Poindexter had active warrants, so they went to the lot to make contact with him.

Upon arrival, Poindexter sat down in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. A passenger, Ernest Boyd, 29, of Raceland, attempted to flee when authorities arrived, but was quickly apprehended.

Authorities said Boyd tried to conceal a plastic bag containing suspected meth, but deputies found the bag, as well as a suspected marijuana cigarette on Boyd’s possession.

Through investigation, authorities said they also learned that Boyd had outstanding warrants in Lafourche.

After apprehending Boyd, authorities took Poindexter into custody without incident. During a search of his body, authorities said they located a small bag of marijuana on him, as well as drug paraphernalia.

The suspects were taken to the Lafourche Parish Jail.

Poindexter was booked on warrants for distribution of methamphetamine and violation of parole. He was also booked for possession of marijuana (third offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond is set at $12,750.

Boyd is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of marijuana (second offense) and resisting arrest.

He was also booked on outstanding warrants for two counts of domestic abuse battery.

Both suspects are ineligible for bond, per a hold by Louisiana Probation and Parole.
