A Bourg woman was arrested last week after she allegedly slammed a pet rabbit on a pickup truck, killing the animal.

On Dec. 29, 2016, a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the 100 block of La. Highway 55 in Bourg in reference to a video that was posted on social media, allegedly depicting a pet rabbit being killed.

The video was shared a number of times, and the deputy obtained a copy of the video as evidence.

The owner of the rabbit contacted local Animal Control, who then told her to call TPSO, which started the investigation.

After investigation, authorities learned that Jazmine Babin, 18, of 133 Klondyke Road, slammed the rabbit to the pavement on the day of the alleged incident.

According to authorities, the rabbit was hurt, but still alive after the blow.

Babin was given a misdemeanor summons for cruelty to animals for her alleged role in the incident.

After receiving more video of the incident, authorities learned that the rabbit later died after Kagon Duplantis, 19, of 405 Bayouside Drive, allegedly slammed it on a pickup truck.

When questioned, Duplantis allegedly said she was told to slam the rabbit to “put it out of its misery”.

Authorities said they learned that the suspects were consuming alcoholic beverages when they decided to harm the animal.

Duplantis is charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal.

She was taken to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.
