A 30-year-old St. James native is in custody of the Houma Police Department after he allegedly pulled a gun on a man and a woman during a dispute at Houma Highland Apartments.

Authorities were called to the apartment complex on April 7 just before 5 p.m. in reference to a disturbance.

During investigation, authorities learned that a male suspect, identified as DeShaun Shepphard, 30, of Barras Street, St. James, was involved in an altercation with a man and a woman just before officers’ arrival.

Authorities learned that during the altercation, Shepphard allegedly pulled a weapon, pointed it at the two victims and threatened to shoot them.

He then fled the scene in a grey GMC truck.

As officers investigated the incident, they located a vehicle matching the description traveling on La. Highway 311 toward Savanne Road.

A traffic stop was initiated and Shepphard was apprehended, taken into custody without incident.

He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Authorities said they located a Taurus .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun in his possession at the time of his arrest.

Since being arrest, Shepphard has been freed after posting a $50,000 bond.
