A 22-year-old Houma man was charged with multiple drug offenses this week.

Authorities were alerted of his presence because he was allegedly driving in a neighborhood during the worst of Tropical Storm Cindy’s rains.

At approximately 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Houma Police officers were patrolling the Mulberry neighborhood as a precaution because power was out in the neighborhood because of strong winds and rain from the storm.

While doing so, authorities observed a light-colored vehicle riding through the street.

Because of the potential for looting during storm times, officers conducted a traffic stop to make sure everything was OK.

During the investigation, HPD identified the driver as a 23-year-old male. The vehicle also had a female inside, as well as a back-seat passenger identified as Trent Folse, 22, of Lucille Court.

During investigation, authorities said they observed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and authorities also located a dark-colored duffle bag on the backseat, which allegedly contained 13 grams of crystal meth, more than 20 grams of marijuana, as well as a digital scale.

Folse allegedly admitted the narcotics belonged to him and he was taken into custody, charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest (because he originally gave officers a false name).

Authorities also learned that Folse had outstanding warrants, so he is also held on those charges, as well.

Authorities said the other occupants of the vehicle were released without charges.
