Tropical Storm Cindy was not enough to scare off the Manning Family, nor hundreds of campers from around the Southeast.

The Manning Passing Academy is still going on as scheduled this week at Nicholls State University – annually one of the most well-attended football camps in the year.

Featuring tutelage from Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Archie Manning and some of the top college quarterbacks in the country, the camp has called Thibodaux home for the past several seasons.

“This is a great event. It really is,” Archie Manning said at last year’s Manning Passing Academy. “We want to make the kids better. A lot of people think this is some sort of Blue Chip combine or something that’s for only the most elite quarterbacks. That’s not the case. We want to take these kids and send them back to their high schools as better players.”

Most of the camp is open to the public, and fields are set up around Nicholls’ campus for passers to get work throughout the sunlight hours of each day.

The big public pay-off, however, is the Air-It-Out competition, which will take place on Saturday at John L. Guidry Stadium.

In that event, the Manning family, as well as the counselors will compete in a passing competition – showcasing their arms to the crowd in attendance.

The competition will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the cost is $15 at the door or $12 if tickets are bought in advance.

One hundred percent of the proceeds go to Nicholls athletics.
