A 15-year-old is in custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office after authorities found a loaded handgun and drugs in his possession during a traffic stop.

Just before 7 p.m. on Jan. 17, narcotics agents conducted a traffic stop on a car with no license plate in the 13300 block of East Main Street in Larose. Agents made contact with the driver who had an expired temporary tag for the vehicle. She claimed she was still waiting on the license plate from the dealer.

Agents issued a warning to her for the violation.

During the stop, authorities also detected the odor of marijuana from the front seat passenger, who was a 15-year-old male from Galliano.

Agents conducted a pat-down of the juvenile and during that time, he started to reach for his waistband.

Agents stopped him, but he was able to turn away and flee on foot.

As agents pursued, the juvenile again tried to reach for his waistband, but authorities deployed a Taser, subduing the suspect.

As he did, a handgun dropped from his waistband.

The juvenile continued to resist, but he was taken into custody.

Authorities said the serial numbers on the gun had been destroyed and a round was loaded in the chamber.

During a search, the juvenile was found to have approximately 8 grams of suspected marijuana in his possession and more than $400 in cash.

No other contraband was found.

the male was taken to the Lafourche Juvenile Justice Facility in Thibodaux.

He is charged with resisting an officer with force or violence, illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile, possession of a firearm with an obliterated mark and possession of marijuana.
