A 55-year-old Thibodaux man is in custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, accused of raping a local woman.

On Friday afternoon, detectives said they opened an investigation into an alleged rape in Thibodaux. Through investigation, authorities learned that Glenn Watkins, 55, of Thibodaux, was taking a female friend to run errands.

After the errands were completed, the suspect allegedly parked behind a business when the woman thought she was being brought home.

Watkins then allegedly moved the woman to the rear seat of his vehicle and allegedly held her down while forcing the woman to engage in sexual intercourse.

He also struck her in the face during the incident, according to authorities.

The woman was eventually able to force Watkins away from her and leave the area.

Authorities made contact with the suspect. During questioning, he allegedly admitted to striking the woman and the intercourse, but said it was consensual.

Following investigation, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Watkins.

He was booked on one count of second-degree rape and is held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
