A Westwego man wanted for domestic abuse was arrested this past weekend in Golden Meadow’s Oakridge Park.

Authorities found drugs in his possession at the time of his arrest.

On June 29, a concerned citizen reported seeing a picture on Facebook of a man lying on a bench at Oak Ridge Park. The caller was concerned that the man had possibly suffered an overdose.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the man, who identified himself as Lennie Gabriel, 41, of Westwego.

Gabriel was exhibiting signs of possibly being under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his arrest.

In speaking to the suspect, authorities also found that he was in possession of suspected methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana and several pills for which he did not have a prescription, as well as various drug paraphernalia.

GMPD officers learned that Gabriel had a warrant in Lafourche related to a domestic incident in Feb. 2019, and that he was wanted for domestic abuse battery and false imprisonment in that incident.

He was arrested on the aforementioned charges, but now also faces charges of possession of heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine, a legend drug and drug paraphernalia.

Bond is set at $8,100.
