A 34-year-old Raceland woman is accused of stealing money from the donation boxes at an area church.

On June 23, authorities were called to a church in Raceland in reference to someone having stolen money from donation boxes.

Upon arrival, authorities learned that a woman was captured on surveillance video breaking into a donation box in a candle room at the church around 5:15 p.m. on June 21, 2018. Authorities also learned that a “poor box” inside the church was damaged and money had been stolen.

Through investigation, authorities identified Gabrielle Griffin, 34, of Raceland, as a suspect.

On June 24, deputies located Griffin and questioned her about the incident.

She allegedly admitted to breaking into the donation boxes to steal the money.

Griffin was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux.

She is charged with two counts of simple criminal damage to property and one count of theft.

Her bond is set at $2,000.
