Edgar E. “Gene” Dugal Jr., 80, a native of Sunset and resident of Raceland, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.

Gene is survived by his wife, Linda M. Dugal; children, Robert Brent Dugal, Dianne Dugal-Chevalier (T.J.); Edgar “Eddie” Dugal III, Rebecca Caruso (Keith), Dwayne Dugal (Sheri), Steven Dugal (Lisa), Matthew Dugal, Shari Adams (Frank) and John Reid (Teresa); brother, Dr. James Dugal; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.


Gene graduated Cathedral High in Lafayette, LA, in 1955, and went on to graduate from Commonwealth Mortuary School, Houston, TX in 1957. He worked as an embalmer and funeral director for the past 60 years. He was known in the community as “Mr. Gene”.

Gene was an outdoorsman who enjoyed duck hunting and fishing, telling stories about Louisiana and Cajun life-mostly jokes. He was well known for his practical jokes, cooking, kind-giving heart and his love for family and friends and dogs.
