Cooking for a cause combines good food with good intentions. HOPE for Animals, a non-profit, no-kill rescue organization in Thibodaux will host its Top Dog Cajun Cook Off on Saturday, May 15, in Downtown Thibodaux in front of “The Goose.”

Bracelets that entitle you to unlimited “tastes” of any dish available will be sold for $10 to the public. Live musicand dancing begins at 7 p.m.

The cost to compete is $30 per team (sponsorships are available) and all dishes must be prepared on-site, enough for approximately 50, 2-ounce servings. Cooks harboring a big heart and a delicious recipe can enter the competition by contacting Vicki Hebert, a volunteer and fundraiser planner for HOPE for Animals at (985) 447-3821 or by visiting the organization’s Web site, www.hopeforanimals.com. Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries. Deadline is May 8.

All proceeds will benefit HOPE for Animals, whose mission, according to Hebert, “is to improve and save the lives of as many animals as possible.”

Can’t make the cook off? On May 30, a special Sunday chicken dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $6. Contact Hebert for more information.
