Can you carry a tune? Are you the area’s top singer?

The best way to find out is to compete Saturday, July 23, in the 6th Annual Park Idol competition at Larose Regional Park & Civic Center. Finalists return the following day at 1 p.m. to determine who wins bragging rights.

Singers in three divisions, children (ages 8 to 12), juniors (ages 13 to 17) and seniors (18 and up), face off in the preliminary round from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. A panel of outside judges, professionals from several local bands, is judging this year’s performers.

Trophies are awarded in each category, and the Park Idol winner receives a cash prize and a singing spot at this year’s French Food Festival in October.

The cost to view the first round is $1. To watch the final competition, the cost is $3.

“We had at least 50 performers compete last year,” said Jasmine Ayo, executive director of the Larose facility. “The public response to Park Idol is just tremendous. We have so many talented people right here in the area; we’re looking forward to this year’s competition. Everyone’s urged to join the fun – singing or watching.”

The Larose Regional Park & Civic Center is located at 307 E. 5th St.
