March marks the 10th year Nicholls State University has treated the Tri-parishes to its arts and humanities Jubilee.

The two-month celebration kicks off in Houma with Kappa Pi’s art club’s “Recycled” exhibition at the Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum.

Throughout March and April, visitors can enjoy an abundance of activities across the Tri-parishes. You’ll find this month’s lineup inside the pages of the Gumbo Entertainment Guide and a complete list on our Web site at www.gumboguide.com.

Registration for one particular event, the 2008 Jambalaya Writers’ Conference & Book Fair luncheon, is going on throughout March. Fans of the written word and aspiring writers will want to check out this event April 5 at the Terrebonne Parish Main Library in Houma. The conference itself is free to the public, however the keynote speaking event with New York Times best-selling author F. Paul Wilson. The science fiction and horror thriller writer has penned more than 30 books, including “Harbingers,” his 10th installment in the Repairman Jack series. The cost of the luncheon is $25, and registration is open through March 22.

And that’s just one of the many events NSU has on tap for this year’s celebration. As event coordinator Angela Hammerli told Gumbo staffers, the tough part about Jubilee isn’t deciding whether or not to attend; the hardest thing will be deciding what performances to attend because they are all so unique in their own way.
