A celebration of art is on tap for the Chauvin Sculpture Garden on April 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It is the third year that the festival will take place.

Karen Eberhardt said it will be an all-day event that will immerse visitors — from kids to adults — into appreciation of art. “There are going to be some fine artists,” she said. “as well as folk artists. These are people that perhaps have not been trained in the traditional, academic way, but still do their crafts.”

Eberhardt said most of the artists will be from the area, as well as from as far as the Northshore.

And there will be plenty of fun for the kids, as well. “We’ll have face painting,” said Eberhardt. “And then the kids can come and they can paint masks, they can make their own sculptures and they can make mosaics. We figure if we can get the kids involved, and make this a family-oriented event, then they’ll be the caretakers of the future.”

The event takes place in conjunction with the Blessing of the Shrimp Fleet, by St. Joseph’s Church. The blessing becomes a boat parade that passes next to the Chauvin Sculpture Garden. Eberhardt estimated that the parade would pass next to the garden sometime between noon and 1 p.m.

Art will be on display and for sale. There will also be food and musical entertainment, beginning at 11 a.m.
