Husband-and-wife team Westley and Erica Annis are co-directing Thibodaux Playhouse’s next venture, the Broadway musical hit “Annie,” which runs July 16 through 25 at Jean Lafitte Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center.

One of Broadway’s longest running shows, Erica Annis said the production is full of great songs. “Annie” is the heart-warming tale of the Depression-era orphan girl who finds happiness with a grouchy millionaire and his loving Gal.

Based on the Harold Gray comic strip “Little Orphan Annie,” which debuted in 1924, the musical is a family affair, according to Erica.

“It’s a big-hearted musical for the whole family, complete with adorable orphans, a loveable dog, lots of great singing and dancing, a live radio broadcast, a Christmas party, all of New York City on one stage – well, almost – and a happy ending for everybody,” she said.

Featuring musical hits like “Tomorrow,” “It’s the Hard-Knock Life,” “Maybe” and “I Don’t Need Anything But You,” the play won Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book.

“Annie” is Thibodaux Playhouse’s final show in this its 50th anniversary season.

The Annis’ said the cast includes a number of familiar faces, including two cast members who appeared in the playhouse’s 1985 production of “Annie” – David Gauthreax, who plays Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks, and Tiffany Galey, who appears as Annette.

Girls who’ve played the leading role – Annie – and gone on to successful film and theatre careers include Andrea McArdle, the original Annie, Sarah Jessica Parker and Aileen Quinn.

The Thibodaux Playhouse’s production casts Thibodaux High School student Bethany Martinez in the lead. The orphans in the cast are Michala Torres as Molly, Sarah Delhaye as Duffy, Karra Rodrigue (July), Jessica Galey (Kate), Sophia Galey (Tessie), Hannah Adams (Hannah) and Rebecca Bourgeois (Rebecca/Sandy).

Thibodaux Playhouse fan favorites Blake Petit (Bert Healy), Laura Templet (Mrs. Hannigan) and Joey Pierce (Rooster Hannigan) also return to the local stage in this musical.

Other cast members are Tiffany Trahan (Grace Farrell), Jason Galjour (Drake), Damon Stentz (President Franklin Roosevelt), Alison Schreckengast (Connie Boylan), Nikki Allemand (Mrs. Pugh), Dayla Rich (Cecile), J’Leigh Chauvin (Star-to-be/Ronnie Boylan), Denny Tsang (Mr. Bundles), Daniel Andres (Howe), Marcel Hebert (Bonnie Boylan), Roger Hernandez (Morganthau), Isabella Galjour (Kid), Sean Autin (Lt. Ward), and Treva Breaux (multiple understudy roles).

“Annie” will be presented Thursday, July 15, through Saturday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, July 18, at 2 p.m. The curtain will rise on the performance again on Thursday, July 22, through Saturday, July 24, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, July 25, at 2 p.m., at the Jean Lafitte Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center.

The center is located at 314 St. Mary St. in Thibodaux.

Tickets for the production are $14 for adults and $10 for students with a valid school ID.
