Think you have what it takes to tame the beast?

Then you might want to visit the Terrebonne Livestock Association’s 10th annual Beauty and the Beast Bull Bash on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Houma Airforce Base.

Events will include bull riding, calf riding, barrel racing, team roping, junior bull riding and youth barrels.

“It is entertainment for the whole family,” said Donna Price. “Young and old, everyone will enjoy it.”

There will also be a calf scramble and pony rides for the children. Children age 8 or younger can also participate in a sheep-riding contest.

“It is a lot of fun to watch,” Price said. “They have to stay on the sheep for four seconds and can win prize money just like the big boys do.”

This year’s event will also include a saddle tramp competition, in which cowboys will dress up like women and present themselves to the audience on horseback. Then the audience decides who they think is the prettiest.

“It is pretty funny,” Price said. “It is a good time and everyone gets to participate in the judging.”

A bull bash is similar to a rodeo, except there are fewer timed events, and barrel racing and team roping are included.

Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Children 2 and under are admitted free.

Anxious cowboys who will have a hard time waiting for the Bull Bash are encouraged to attend the Chris Shivers Gerry Lane Invitational, which will take place Aug. 11 and 12 in Baton Rouge.

The event attracts the world’s best bull rides, who will go head-to-head with the world’s toughest bulls.

Tickets range from $15 to $60 and can be pruchased by calling 225-761-8400 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
