Hosted by the Terrebonne Historical and Cultural Society, an exhibit displaying the photographic works of Houma native Brenda Sonier, will be open to the public at the Southdown Plantation and Museum from May 2 through July 10.
Primarily focusing her camera on the scenic splendor of Louisiana, the full-time nurse spends much of her free time indulging her passion for photography and her fondness of the great outdoors.
“I love to take pictures everywhere we go,” said Sonier, who frequently goes fishing with her husband. “This gives me the chance to show everyone the beauty around us.”
Sonier’s husband, Guy, enhances his wife’s nature-inspired photographs with cypress wooden frames, constructed from an 1800 plantation home.
The opening reception, which will be held Sunday, May 2, from 2 to 4 p.m., will be free to the public. Refreshments will be served.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 1208 Museum Drive in Houma. To take a full tour of the museum, which includes Sonier’s artwork, costs $6. Admission to see the exhibit only is $2.
