Back by popular demand, “The Color Purple” runs Feb. 11-13 at New Orleans’ Mahalia Jackson Theatre.

The story of enduring love and perseverance, the musical is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker – made on the big screen by Stephen Spielberg.

It tells the unforgettable and inspiring story of Celie Johnson, who triumphs over tremendous odds to find joy in life, her true inner beauty and discovers her unique voice in the world.

Raised in the early 1900s, Celie struggles abuse – at the hands of her father, her husband “Mister” and prejudice. Despite losing her child, her sister and years in a loveless marriage, Celie endures. It’s only after she leaves “Mister” that he finds compassion and is the impetus for a heartfelt ending to her hardships.

Tickets start at $30 and are available at the box office or via Ticketmaster. Showtimes are at 8 p.m. Feb. 11; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Feb. 12; and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13.
