Cupid, the artist who brought fame to “The Cupid Shuffle,” is coming to the Amelia Belle Casino Sunday.

“The Only Cupid” pre-New Year’s Eve Bash kicks off at 10 p.m. Tickets are $15, and are available at KBZE 105.9FM.

Lafayette recording artist Cupid, dubbed the “King of Down South R&B,” got his start in the church choir where his father served as pastor.

His gold-selling single, “Cupid Shuffle,” catapulted him into the limelight. With his positive lyrics and upbeat melodies, Cupid followed with “Happy Dance” and “Love Slide.” (The latter can be downloaded for free at www.kbze.com.)

He’s also climbed the charts with “2 Stepping Won’t Die” and “369.”

His five-octave vocal range has caught the attention of fans and critics alike. Cupid’s career reached a new level in 2007. He signed with Atlantic Records, released his third album, “Time For A Change,” and was named Entertainer of the Year at the 3rd Coast Music Awards.

The Dec. 28 show marks KBZE 105.9FM’s first-ever sponsorship of an R&B concert, the station’s president and general manager Howard Castay said.

DJ Phab, the talent behind KBZE 105.9FM’s “Phabolis Lunch Hour,” is appearing with Cupid. DJ Phab, whose show airs Mondays through Thursdays from noon to 2 p.m., will throw down a mix of R&B, blues and swing-out music.

Castay said a limited number of tickets to Cupid’s concert are available. “We’re encouraging people to get their now before they’re all gone,” he said.
