Game for an inspiring message and lunch buffet?

The Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux’s newest ministry, Food for the Journey, offers locals spiritual wisdom and lunch.

According to diocese representative Kate Austin, the monthly lunchtime series features local priests offering help to others – Catholic or non-Catholic. The program is similar to one created five years ago by the Diocese of Lafayette.

“[Food for the Journey] offers adults the opportunity to gain some spiritual growth during their lunch hours,” Austin said. “It’s difficult for adults to do things in the evenings because they work and have to tend to their families. But everyone has to eat lunch, and this gives them an opportunity to put a little God in their everyday lives.”

Austin said the program is held the first Tuesday of each month at the Quality Inn Hotel, 210 S. Hollywood Road in Houma.

The buffet lunch begins at 11:30 a.m., and is $12. The price includes the meal, drink and tip. Austin said the money helps to fund the event.

The event is free for those looking to hear the speaker and not indulge in the meal.

Food for the Journey begins at noon. The speaker’s presentation begins at 12:10-12:45 p.m.

Although no one is turned away on the day of the event, Austin urges attendees to RSVP the Wednesday before a Food for the Journey function. Since it was launched in November, the monthly meal has averaged about 180 attendees per meeting.
