The party has to start somewhere for Mardi Gras goers dying to get their hands on beads, doubloons and the other trinkets associated with carnival time.

In the Tri-parish area, it starts with one parade annually – the Krewe of Hercules, which is set to roll Feb. 25 at 6 p.m., in Houma.

And as always, the parade is rolling out the red carpet to the carnival season, including having country music artist Cody McCarver as a grand marshal, fresh off his Top-20 hit singles “Red Flag” and “Through God’s Eyes.”

But the addition of McCarver is just one of the many reasons why the 2011 version of Hercules will be sure to get Mardi Gras season off on the right foot.

In addition to the musician, the parade will be the largest-ever in its 27-year history, holding “700 revelers [who will be] bombarding excited crowds with millions of beads and throws,” according to the parade’s official web site.

To hold the large, all-male krewe, the parade will feature two mega-floats.

If that’s not enough, the parade will also feature 27 super floats, which will help to haul the krewe’s more than 700 members, headed by King Hercules XXVII, Mr. Julius Hebert.

The parade route stretches from Southland Mall, rolling South down to West Park Avenue, before stopping at Hollywood Road, taking a right, then a left to West Main Street, before proceeding to Barrow Street.

It’s never too early to kick off Mardi Gras season, so as always, check out the Hercules parade and get the party started on the right foot.
