If you’re hungry for fun, June is your month.

Gumbo staffer Mike Brossette takes you aboard Munson’s Swamp Tours for a ride through Schriever’s backwaters.

Captain Bill Munson and the Tri-parishes several other tour guides discuss the sights and sounds that make our wetlands such an attraction for visitors and home for southern Louisianans.

If all that wildlife has you itching to cast a line, no worry. The Tri-parishes is hosting a number of fishing rodeos across the region n most, for a good cause. Almost any weekend, anglers can find a tourney. Whether you’re casting for speckled trout in Montegut, saltwater fish in the Creole Classic or aiming to “Take a Kid Fishing,” there’s an event to fit your style and skill level.

Once you’re back on land, there are still plenty of good times to be had.

High energy, adventure seekers can try out the gang at ShellShocked Paintball in Houma. On weekends, paintball warriors gather to test their aim. And the owners of ShellShocked rent the equipment so newbies can try the sport before investing big dollars.

If you’re looking for indoor fun, there’s always ballroom dancing. Houma is sending four dancers to the 2007 Louisiana Gumbo of Ballroom competition this month. It’s our own local version of “Dancing With the Stars.”

And speaking of stars, the Centerstage Singing Competition is hosting tryouts at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center this month. The final “American Idol” style showdown will be held in July.

So there you have it. June’s here, school’s out and the fun is just getting started. Get out and enjoy!
