Chauvin artist Carolyn Blanchard Pellegrin’s mixed media works themed “Landscapes” is showing Aug. 8 through Sept. 28 at the Southdown Plantation House/The Terrebonne Museum. The 28 paintings capture the colorful landscape scenes of sunrises, sunsets, marches, swamps and wetlands. “Still a student of art,” Blanchard Pellegrin caught the painting bug in high school. The self-taught painter got help from Bob Ross’ TV program, “The Joy of Painting.” Today, she participates in workshops and exhibits, and teaches at children’s summer art camps. “Art is very important to me,” she said. “It has opened my eyes to a new meaning on how beautiful this world we live in can be. My method of art is through myself. I paint what I feel; whether it depicts happiness, sadness or other emotions. My color selections mirror my emotions, thoughts, determination, love and faith. My greatest joy out of it all is letting someone see what’s inside of me through my artwork. When I paint, different emotions come out of me. I says that’s the best kind of art; when you can express yourself.” A free reception for Blanchard Pellegrin is set for Aug. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m.
