Christian recording artist Kristyn Leigh is performing Friday, May 23, at 7 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church Hall. The free concert is open to the public.

The 19-year-old reached No. 5 on the Gospel Music Channel charts with musical videos off her sophomore release, “The Heavy and the Holy.” She’ll be performing tunes from that CD and her first release, “Glimpse.”

The duo of CDs should captivate people of all ages and musical tastes.

Songs like “Bulletproof Girl” show she’s a hard-edged rocker while maintaining her Christian roots. “A lot of people assume since I am a Christian that I can’t be hurt,” Leigh says in a Web interview. “I get hurt a lot. But I have faith that’s been instilled in me from an early age. I can fall on that, and deal.”

Likewise, the rock ballad “Invisible” explores the feeling of being unnoticed, and ultimately finding affirmation from God.

“What I Didn’t Say” is a poignant pop song that recounts the true story of a friend of Kristyn’s who died before the singer had a chance to share the Word of Jesus. “Pent Up,” in the meantime, is an anthem for those who try to voice their own views.

Houma’s First Praise will also perform.

Grace Lutheran is located at 422 Valhi Blvd. in Houma. For more information, call (985) 879-1865.
