The 34th annual Over and Under 5K Tunnel Run and Heart Health Expo returns to Houma Saturday, April 9, bringing with it music, food and heart-healthy awareness.

Anyone interested in participating is asked to show up at the Houma-Municipal Auditorium at noon.

“It’s fun for the whole family,” said Leigh Tenewitz, of the American Heart Association. “Everything we raise goes to the American Heart Association.”

The Trapp Cadillac Chevrolet-sponsored Children’s Fun Run begins at 1 p.m.

The 5K Race, put on by the American Heart Association, begins at 2 p.m.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female runners and walkers and male and female masters.

Tenewitz said the top two finishers in each age group will receive awards, and the first 100 children to finish the race receive medals.

Immediately following the races, a heart-healthy expo kicks off from 2 to 6 p.m. featuring music by Souled Out, face painting, bounce houses and plenty of food and drinks.

Not athletic? No problem. Non-participants can pay $10 to attend the expo.

Race registration forms are available at Trapp Cadillac Chevrolet and Haydel Medical & Surgical Center. A copy is available via the Web by e-mailing leigh.tenewitz@heart.org.

Tenewitz said honors will also go to the local school that generates the most race participants.

“The Houma Orthopedic Clinic awards $500 to the school that has the most registration forms,” she said. “The second place school gets $250.”

“This event has been a big success over the years, we hope that continues this year,” she added.

The race and expo take place rain or shine.
