Artists, mark your calendars. On Thursday, July 7, from 5 to 8 p.m., Southdown Plantation House and Museum in Houma hosts its first-ever Painting at the Plantation.

Artist Donna Graham, owner of Houma’s D-designs Art Studio and former St. Bernadette Catholic School art teacher, is leading the 3-hour art class. She’ll teach proper technique and skills to create an acrylic rendering of the plantation.

The $30 cost includes everything needed to create the piece: a 16-by-20-inch canvas, paint and brushes. It also includes dinner, a slice of pizza and a beverage. The museum’s portion of the proceeds benefit the Terrebonne Historical & Cultural Society and its efforts to preserve, operate and promote Southdown Plantation House and Museum.

“This is a great project that families can work on together,” said Katie LeCompte, Southdown executive director.

The class is open to artists age 10 and up and limited to 15 people. To register, call (985) 851-0154 or email info@southdownmuseum.org.
