The town of Franklin heralds in the harvest season Oct. 16 with its 11th annual Harvest Moon Festival.

Held along the town’s Main Street, the event was originally created to promote downtown shopping and to encourage local merchant support. Franklin also takes this time to recognize the sugarcane farming culture and to give thanks for the farmland and abundant natural resources.

Sponsored by the Franklin Merchants Association, the festival features a multitude of vendors selling arts & crafts, food and more, a mega-children’s activity area, a classic car and bike show, special retail promotions and live music.

The anticipated band schedule includes Cross Roads from 9 to 11 a.m.; Jody & the Zydeco Poppas from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Hott Dawgs performs from 2 to 4 p.m.; Ricky Lorenzo and Mark Robicheaux play at 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.; and Flashback closes out the event from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

“People can expect a good time – good food, good entertainment and good company,” said Debbie VonWerder, chairperson for the festival.

Admission is free. For more information, contact VonWerder at (337) 828-3706 or e-mail info@cajuncoast.com.
