Special guest Marcelle Beinvenu joins Southdown Plantation’s “A Taste of Cajun Christmas” Dec. 15.


The night features holiday cuisine from Bienvenu’s cookbooks, as well as cocktails and desserts. The event also features a silent auction, Christmas atmosphere and music and an open bar.

The planned menu includes leek and tasso soup, marinated green beans and tomatoes, crawfish soufflé over corn bread, spinach bread, oyster and artichoke casserole, wild rice torres, pork tenderloin, syrup cake and apple cake.


Bienvenu is the author of “Who’s Your Mama,” “Are You Catholic and Can You Make a Roux?” and “Cajun Cooking for Beginners.” She is also the co-author of “Stir the Pot: The History of Cajun Cuisine” and has collaborated with Emeril Lagasse on various books and projects. Bienvenu currently writes a popular column in The Times Picayune.

Bienvenu’s cookbooks will be available for purchase.

All proceeds benefit the non-profit Terrebonne Historical & Cultural Society and their efforts to preserve, operate and promote Southdown Plantation in Houma.
