U.S. Army Specialist Shawn Snow, of Thibodaux, has been based in Kuwait since March 2006. As a military truck driver, he is regularly called upon to make deliveries in Iraq.

Spec. Davis joined the Army in 2004. He was a 17-year-old student at Thibodaux High School at the time, and followed in his brother David’s footsteps. David Snow Jr. was among the first Army troops called into Operation Iraqi Freedom. Earlier this year, he received a medical discharge from the Army and settled in Hawaii with his wife Noel and their son Jaydin.

Upon graduation from Thibodaux High, Spec. Davis had planned to attend L.E. Fletcher Community College in Houma where he was going to study accounting. However, the Army had other plans. He was called to basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.

Not only was Spec. Snow’s education put on hold, his plans to marry Jamie Roger of Thibodaux would also have to wait. A month after he proposed, Spec. Snow got word that he was being called into action.

“He joined the Army because he believes it is his duty to defend his country,” fianc?e Roger said. “Shawn is the perfect role model. He doesn’t drink, smoke or curse. He’s very loveable and always puts others in a good mood.”

Spec. Snow is the son of David and Cindy Snow of Thibodaux. In addition to his older brother, he has a sister, Amy.

The 19-year-old and his Thibodaux bride-to-be are still making wedding plans, although a date has not yet been set. Roger’s hopeful when he returns briefly stateside next year that they will be wed; Spec. Snow is leaning toward May 2008 when he is slated to be reassigned stateside. His military term is scheduled to end in 2012.

For his dedication to his country and his family, we salute Spec. Shawn Snow as Soldier of the Month.
