When the NFL champion New Orleans Saints take on the Tampa Bay Bucs Oct. 17, where better to take in the game than at Houma’s Southdown Plantation?

A perfect site for tailgating, the game will air on two 73-inch televisions under the pavilion at noon.

Big Mikes BBQ is selling brisket, hamburgers and other tailgating specialties. And the Terrebonne Historical & Cultural Society (THACS) has hot dogs, chili and chili Fritos and beer on sale.

The day also includes music entertainment and plenty of activities for the younger set: football and tire toss, face painting and more.

“We have all the ingredients for a great time: football, food, drinks and games to occupy the kids,” said Katie LeCompte, Southdown Plantation executive director. “It’s the perfect place to enjoy the game with friends all while supporting your community.”

Tickets are $5 per person; children under age 8 are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at the plantation gift shop or at the event.

No outside food, drinks or ice chests are allowed, LeCompte said.

Proceeds from the family-friendly event will help cover the cost of museum repairs, including replacing the roof, extensive interior repairs and replacing or repairing the shutters, she said. This year’s goal is to raise $150,000, the amount needed for repairs not covered by insurance.
