The Bayouland YMCA will be knocking out two birds with on stone when it hosts Healthy Kid’s Day on Saturday, April 14.

The day starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m., and offers a fun day for kids while allowing parents to sign their children up for any summer events requiring registration. “What it is, is a kick off for our summer camp registration,” said Mary Davis, membership director for the Bayouland YMCA. “Instead of having people just come by and register, we kind of make it a fun day.”

Davis said the Healthy Kid’s Day is something that all YMCA’s across the country host, allowing kids to do what they do best — have fun — while allowing parents to take care of paper work dealing with summer registrations.

“This is an annual thing that the YMCA of the USA does,” he said. “They give us a date, and it’s advertised on the Disney Channel. Since it’s such a big event, we just make it easier for parents to register kids for any summer event.”

Some of the summer events that Davis pointed out were summer caps, swimming lessons and summer soccer.

But before those summer camps start, kids will have an chance to have a preview of the fun on Healthy Kid’s Day.

Available for the kids will be a bounce house, pony rides, face painting and clowns making balloon animals for free.

There will also be a deejay, providing music throughout the day. Hamburger and hot dogs will be available.

Admission for kids is free.

Davis said she expects a good turnout. “Last year we had between 200 and 300 kids,” she said. “It was a beautiful day.”
