Dear Editor:

I live in Bayou Dularge with my daughter and three grandchildren. During Gustav, half of our roof was blown off and we have mold growing in our walls. Since Ike, we haven’t been able to get to our home. We have no idea if our house has been flooded.

I applied for help from FEMA for Gustav. I was one of the lucky ones that got to get an assessment from them. But have they helped? Well you decide.

I checked the status of my application today and I have been denied help because they said that my family and I are able to live in the dwelling.

Does that make any sense? A roof half gone and mold growing! What are they thinking?

Are we being punished for the inadequate way they handled Rita and Katrina?

I am sure I am not alone here. I know that I am not the only one being denied help. I just think that “We the People” need to get together and do something about what is going on. Our government will spend billions of dollars to declare war. But, what have they done to declare peace for us and ours?

If anyone has answers to these questions, please inform me. If there is help out there for those of us that have been affected by the hurricanes, please inform us of this also. I realize we are living in an imperfect world and working with imperfect men. But it doesn’t take a genius to see that we are all being treated unjust.
