Dear Editor,

As part of SEECA’s Veterans’ Vision event, Dr. A.J. De La Houssaye (“Dr. D”) sent Oakley ballistic grade protective glasses to U.S. soldiers from the Tri-parish area currently serving in Iraq.

The following local heroes received glasses from SEECA to help protect their eyes from bomb blasts and other dangerous projectiles: Mitchell Nevins, SPC Beau Blanchard, Sgt. Nicole M. Coleman, SPT Tamasha Davis, LCPL Max K. Verret, TTST Lance Taylor, SPC Grendel Ellender, MSG Dean Matherne, CPL Blake DeVille, Michael Dominique and Reuben Roy.

Every year, SEECA conducts free vision screenings for veterans and their families. The annual event is held Nov. 11 through Dec. 31 to commemorate the sacrifices our veterans make to keep us safe.

During the 6th annual Veterans’ Vision event, 217 veterans and their family members were seen for free. Since the inaugural year of 2002, a total of 1,073 veterans and their family members have been seen, and a total of $10,730 in cash donations have been provided to local veterans’ organizations.

For each person seen during the event, SEECA donates $10 to a local veterans’ project. This year, donations were given to the Regional Military Museum, the Marine Corps League and Oakley ballistic glasses were purchased.

Many patients of SEECA contributed to this year’s project, which helped us purchase the best protective eyewear available for our troops. The SEECA patients who contributed are: Pearl Oncale, Kathleen and Harold Dole, Benjamin Matherne, Mollie Falgoust, Riley Gros, Marie Herman, Peggy Lovell, Donald Boudreaux, Rita and Carlton Falgoust, Richard Benoit, Clarence Landreneau, Daniel Allemands, Lorraine Allemands and Janet Prosperie.

Dr. D and the staff at SEECA would like to thank everyone who donated their time and money to this project and we thank them for supporting our troops overseas.

Dr. A.J. De La Houssaye
