NSU president hails ’07 legislative support

Dear Editor,

Through this letter, the Nicholls State University family, its faculty, staff and students wish to publicly thank the legislative delegation for their support of education over the course of the 2007 legislative session.

Nicholls is the recipient of full state formula funding for the first time in 26 years. That support will fund need-based scholarships, equipment and technology expenditures, deferred maintenance initiatives to lessen the potential of service interruptions and equipment failures and, very importantly, salary and benefit support to recruit and retain strong faculty.

All of us at Nicholls thank Governor Kathleen Blanco and her administration, as well as the University of Louisiana System President Sally Clausen and Commissioner of Higher Education E. Joseph Savoie for their support in designing the education budget and carrying it through to success over the course of the legislative session.

July 2007 finds the Nicholls State University community planning the 2007-08 academic year ahead with genuine excitement over the opportunities presented in the 2007 budget.

We genuinely appreciate the support of the state and particularly the regional legislative delegation in providing the resources so badly needed to continue to serve south Louisiana and beyond.
