Houma Terrebonne Toys for Tots are now accepting donations of new and unwrapped toys for their holiday toy drive. The organization will be collecting toys on Saturday, Dec.4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westside Walmart located at 1622 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Houma.

While donating a new and unwrapped gift, guests will enjoy live musical performances by Brian Avet, Casie and Jonny, and BJ Levron. GUMBO 94.9 will host a Live Radio Broadcast from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Radio personalities will be in attendance, challenging each other to see who can collect the most toys and donations. In addition to meeting local radio personalities, guests can enjoy a cup of Community Coffee while meeting Indiana Santa and TFT Elves!

“I’m working really hard with our volunteers to try to make sure that we reach every child in our Parish,” said Terrebonne Parish Sheriff and Local Campaign Coordinator Tim Soignet, “After Hurricane Ida, there’s definitely a need here, and it would break my heart to know there’s a child that doesn’t have a toy under the tree on Christmas day, so I try to work really hard on this.”

In addition to Saturday’s event, Houma Terrebonne Toys for Tots has donation boxes at multiple drop-off locations, those interested in donating can visit one of the following locations:

  • Cupcake Envie ( 500 Corporate Dr.)

  • The Landing Apartments ( 1803 Martin Luther King Blvd. )

  • Terrebonne Ford Inc. ( 339 St.Charles St. )

Soignet said that just as there is a need for toys, there will be a need for volunteers during the collecting and distribution process. “I have about 30 or 40 volunteers, but that’s honestly not enough, especially when we’re distributing over 20,000 toys and reaching 5,000 children in the parish. So we are definitely still accepting volunteers,” said Soignet.

The event is supported by various organizations including the Houma Terrebonne Marine Corps League Dept. 475 and Pnp Norma A Liner Women’s Auxiliary of MCL, Walmart, and GUMBO 94.9 FM (WGUO Radio Station).
