The Louisiana Office of Consumer Advocacy within the Department of Insurance is hosting an online Hurricanes 2022 Virtual Summit on Wednesday, April 27 at 8:00 a.m. that will feature an expert panel discussing challenges residents face when preparing for the next hurricane season.

The panel will include:

  • Julie Shiyou-Woodard, President & CEO of Smart Homes America
  • Ron Henderson, Deputy Commissioner, Louisiana Department of Insurance, Office of Consumer Advocacy
  • Ron Camarota, Louisiana Department of Insurance, Office of Consumer Advocacy
  • Gilbert Giron Jr, FEMA 2.0 Rating Program
  • Moderated by Ron Camarota

The discussion will include how items of the homeowners policy work and why they are important. If you need help with the key practices to minimize risk and what you can do before the storms arrive to know that you are ready, this summit is for you. The event description said the panel is here to help and protect policyholders through the “Policyholders Bill of Rights.”

The virtual event will also include a live question and answer session and will answer questions regarding regulatory changes. The Office of Consumer Advocacy claims to have helped thousands of citizens with post-disaster issues and has a formal complaint process in place that holds agents, adjusters, and insurance companies accountable and to perform ethically under the Louisiana Insurance Code.

If you plan on attending and have specific questions for the expert panel, they ask that questions are submitted by Monday, April 15. Questions can be submitted to Ron Camarota at Ron.Camarota@ldi.la.gov. Join the Hurricanes 2022 Virtual Summit via Zoom by following this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/…/reg…/WN_vzDYwhtlRLK9g5F86hvtAg
