The popular restaurant chain MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes has made its way to the Bayou Region.

Brothers Khai and Kaleb Duong decided to open their third MOOYAH location in Houma (1725 Martin Luther King Blvd.), after having two other successful locations, one in New Orleans and one in Metairie.

“We knew Houma was going to be a great area, a great trade area to open up a restaurant. This location right here on Martin Luther King is where you want to be,” said Khai Duong. “We knew it was going to be successful down here in Houma. The Houma people have been very supportive, I know they are looking for a good hamburger restaurant.”

Since it opened on June 17, the food establishment has had crowds of customers swarm in, eager to try the fresh, high-quality ingredients the franchise is known to use in their food.

“We have certified Angus beef — fresh, never frozen. We bake our breads fresh every day. We cut the French fries fresh every day from Idaho potatoes. We have better ingredients, better quality product,” said Khai Duong. “And then we also have real ice cream milkshakes.”

Khai Duong said the restaurant is very much a family environment, and they try to give everyone an all-around great experience. “We want everybody to be happy when they leave here,” he added. “We want them to say this is the best burger they ever put in their mouth.”

After talking with Khai while smelling the alluring aromas coming from the open kitchen behind the front counter, I finally was able to order my first taste of MOOYAH when they started taking orders after their doors opened at 11:00 a.m.

MOOYAH allows you to fully customize your burger from their list of quality ingredients.  (The menu includes specialty burgers with predetermined variations, too.) They also have a turkey burger, black bean veggie burger and all-beef hotdog listed on the menu. I built my own burger with two patties of angus beef, a potato artisan bun, pepper jack cheese, applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, grilled onions and MOOYAH sauce (a mixture containing ketchup and mayonnaise) and ordered the hand-cut Idaho fries to-go.

When I got back to the office to enjoy my feast, the burger and fries were still warm, as they were freshly prepared in front of me before leaving the burger joint.

The hamburger was extremely juicy, which is a great start as opposed to the unfortunately common dry burger. The bun was baked to soak in the juices and still have the capacity to keep the hamburger together. The bacon was crispy, but not burnt and the onions were grilled perfectly as well. The MOOYAH sauce was a flawless blend of mayonnaise and ketchup, making an excellent flavor enhancement of the burger.

Still showing skin on the outside, the crispy hand-cut fries were seasoned and high-quality, like the customized burger.

With fresh, carefully made food like this, the MOOYAH Houma location will continue to have crowds rushing through its doors every morning for years to come.
